THE LIGHT WE SHARE
In this season of lengthened nights,
the lamppost earns my praise,
gently disrobing the darkness,
coaxing me out, into
a wider world and home.
But tonight, I pause.
The lamps, unlit.
Everything cloaked in shadow,
while the bellies of streetlights
gape open.
Wires cut,
copper stolen.
No power
