Now I Can See the Moon

Letting Go as a Window to a New View
1

As climate change and extreme weather are taking their toll on our houses and communities, I’m thinking of two Japanese poets who share wisdom about shelters that become ruined. One is a poem by the Japanese poet Izumi Shikibu, written a thousand years ago and translated by Jane Hirshfield with Mariko Aratani, reminding us of the moonlight that shines in through the rafters of the ruined house.

This month, we explore the first thresholding skill named in my book — the practice of Letting Go. This month’s video message explores the moon as a teacher of letting go. It also offers a poem and a practice for considering the windows to community and to relationship that might be opened by our losses, both those chosen and those unwanted.

Registration is now open for the January 31 online program and conversation in the series, “A Year of Living with Change.” The January 31 session focuses on the thresholding skill of Letting Go. If you are not yet a Threshold Times paid subscriber, you can attend the program and view the video by becoming one today.
